Denver Jerash International Art Exchange

Using art as an instrument of intercultural awareness and communication Color The Camps began the first ever international art exchange with refugee children in Jordan and students in the United States.

Denver Center for International Studies and Jerash refugee camp in Jordan asked children ages 7-12  to draw their own self portraits and images that represent their lives. These children were then photographed holding their artwork. The resulting images were displayed with the help of children in the refugee camp and Denver school. The children from both countries were able to learn more about each other’s work and catch a glimpse of the artist. The Jordan images are displayed on a wall in Denver Center for International Studies is a multicultural multilingual Denver public school promotes intercultural learning. The Denver artwork is displayed on a wall outside a youth center. Jerash refugee camp is located one hour away from Amman and is one of the poorest refugee camps in Jordan.
